Add a user license to your QuickBooks software
I have a quick question about a three user server and two workstations installation of QuickBooks Desktop Pro The server installation went very well. The Express option sets up QuickBooks for single-user access.
Thanks for your reply. Please let me try and describe the situation a little better. We have a three user QuickBooks Desktop Pro system. Of the three licenses, one will go on the server via the appropriate Custom and Network installation. We installed the company files and the full QB system on the server so we could use that "license" to perform needed direct maintenance and diagnostic work on the QB system. The other two machines on our small network that use QB are workstations. In this case installing QB Desktop Pro on a workstation , is it okay to use the Express installation on these two machines, assuming that we disable the multi-user hosting function on the two workstations and have it running only on the server?
If that is not the best way to install QB on network workstations, please let me know what the preferred method is.

We have a 2 person general partnership business. Thanks in advance! Obviously, we would need a hosting service to store your QuickBooks, and let all the users access it in multiple locations using different devices. However, we have no control over the services or the restrictions they provide to each user profile.
We partnered with different hosting service providers. I would recommend reaching out to their supports to know if it's possible to limit other user's access to QuickBooks and its files only. We wish you more sales and a great journey with QuickBooks Desktop. We're just right here if you need help. Consider deploying a private cloud solution. You PC will become the host to let other mobile users opening only QuickBooks application at the same time.

Certain remote access programs allow user customization and limitation restrictions, Splashtop business version however, keep in mind that although potentially all 3 of you could access the books at the same time, it is not the same as multi-user but acts as if a single person is working in three places at once.
With hosting, by others or yourself, each device needs to have installed the same version of QB. Mac and PC are different and incompatible. For using disparate devices QB Online is the better solution.
Your concern over "automatic downloads" can easily be fixed by disconnecting bank feeds. There is absolutely no requirement to use that feature and with no banks connected I don't know of anything else that would automatically download.
